Illinois Wage Statement Rules
Illinois Pay Stub Generator
Illinois requires an itemized pay stub every pay period — including year-to-date totals — and employers must keep copies for at least three years, even after employment ends.
Pay stub requirements in Illinois
Illinois defines a 'pay stub' by statute under the Wage Payment and Collection Act: it must be an itemized statement covering hours worked, pay rate, overtime pay and hours, gross wages, deductions, and — notably — running year-to-date totals of both wages and deductions.
Employers must furnish it every pay period and keep copies for at least three years, even if the employee's job ends before that period is up. A current or former employee can request copies and choose the format (physical or electronic, including email or text).
Illinois strengthened these requirements effective January 1, 2025, so if you're comparing older guidance to current law, make sure it reflects the amended rule — particularly the explicit year-to-date itemization requirement.
